2021 prediction

2020 has been a year of a home-office and face mask so far. Not so much appeared in the tech world, apart of Angular added a new date-picker, bootstrap 5 has released, Vue-JS 3 has released, React release suspense beta for data fetching, SpaceX starts using web-component, Elon got hacked, Kubernetes drop docker support, AI start to writing code.

I think 2021 will be much more interesting. In the last couple of days, I have gone through a lot of reading and trying to look through the tech-crystal ball for 2021

Here is my 7 educated guess for 2021 in tech:

Remote Work will change economy

In 2020 all major companies allowed/forced-allowed to almost all employees working from home. Big tech giants like Microsoft, Google, Apple already started to re-allocate their workforce remote-based and start prioritizing remote working. This is excellent news for off shoar tech talented people, who can easily compete with another workforce.
Also, the dense city population will be relaxed and people probably move to a much more affordable city for relocation. Remote working will reshape the economy as such specifically cheap labor markets like India, Malaysia, Ukraine will be much more benefitted from remote working policy.

Death of Javascript frameworks

Hold on there, I don't mean JS framework will die or going somewhere soon. But it seems like innovation has touched the peak point in JS framework world. React, Angular, Vue all have their market share and people reliability. With time they got matured and more flexible, but in all tech, there is an interesting curve, I think they have passed the curve in 2020. As a reference, after the React released hook, I thought it will the terminator for frontend innovation, it seems right, in 2020 there is only minor suspense has published, There is another paradigm like web-assembly on the horizon. And typescript is far more superior in every aspect. So in the final word, JS framework innovation wheel will be slower and typescript will continue rising.

I am also excited about, Deno, snowpack future in 2021, both of them showed potential in 2020.

PWA will rise

PWA(Progressive Web App) will be much more frequent in 2021. Already the line between web-app and native-app getting blurred and in near future, PWA will take a huge market share in a native app platform. In PWA developers can already have access to many device integration features like offline load, push notification, and many more. Also, IOS and Android market place becomes very dense and unfair for new app development even old and renowned developer. Both platforms have introduced many strict rules. It will take some time to get users comfortable with PWA but I think we are in the direction toward that.

AI will not take your job

At least not soon! There is one catch though, GPT(Generative Pre-trained Transforme) which is the autoregressive language model version 3. It is an open ai project and you can describe almost any sort of automation with this.

There is a startup with a GPT-3 code generator. https://debuild.co/

It looks scary for most of the developer, don't need to worry, cause we human are much aware of technological singularity from our survival instincts. But low-skill/no-skill jobs will take a huge blow in the close future.

Low-Code will take your job

In 2020 low-code apps development rise over 3 fold in popularity. With huge tools available online, there is no require a CS engineer to develop an app, anyone with minimum tech skill can build a simple app.

Webflow, HoneyCode, AppSheet are top competitors in the low code app market. In 2020 VCs flowed tons of amounts of money into low-code-based startups. SO this sector will grow faster than expected.

But it will not impact the complex industrial application genre.

Long live SERVERS

Yes, you heard it right, the future is serverless. AWS Lambda, Azure Function grow rapidly last few years, previously there was some drawback like hot storage and proper docker support.

AWS Lamda had included docker support and Azure also includes kubernetes cluster support.

In near future, you don't have to worry about scaling your DB or maintain a huge server to operate your business. Cloud computing companies already enabled pay-as-you-go service and much more superior quality.

Also serverless DB like firestorm and faunaDB on the rise. And they got more reliable and robust with age.

Stock Market crash

I switch it to the stock market because lots of tech companies are relying on the market and jobs are on the line too. In 2020 after a huge crash in March, the market pop back pretty quickly to its all-time high, due to huge government effort and money printing machines. 10+ tech companies went public and lots of companies' share prices went 100 times up without a single-digit sale. That creates a huge bubble, which waiting to burst anytime.
Also, Bank cut its interest rate, and the government all over the world cut income tax, which will fuel the economic bubble in short term but in long term, it will affect badly.

Let's see, I also depend on my job and aint have billions in the bank. So finger cross for of us.

These are my 2021 prediction. Hope this year will bring progress in our lives and help us to fade away 2020’s wounds.

Wish you a HAPPY NEW YEAR!
